Athletes from Kent clubs win 14 medals at the South of England under-15 and under-17 Championships

Young athletes from Kent clubs claimed 14 medals in the South of England under-15 and under-17 Championships held at Watford at the weekend.

There were five title winning performances among the medal haul. Rhiannon Wallwork (Invicta East Kent) won the under-15 girls’ triple jump (10.74m) and was third in the long jump (5.21). At under-17 level, Rose Hairs (Tonbridge) won the 200m (26.14sec) and Bobby Clay (Invicta, pictured) took the 800m (2min 08.97sec).

Lewis Church (Tonbridge) cleared 1.85m to take gold in the under-17 men’s high jump and his English Schools champion team-mate Matthew Blandford continued his winning streak in the discus (53.51).

Silver medals were won by Sabrinha Sinha (Cambridge Harriers) in the under-15 girls’ 1,500m (4.38.51); Cameron Lyttle (Bexley) under-15 boys’ 100m (11.65); Stephen Ball (Cambridge Harriers) under-17 men’s 400m (51.18); George Duggan (Tonbridge) under-17 men’s 1,500m (3.59.59) and Louis Mascarenhas (Blackheath & Bromley Harriers) under-17 men’s discus (49.93).

The remaining bronze medals went to Dereck Aguma (Dartford Harriers) under-15 boys’ 200m 23.72; Chris Cohen (Tonbridge) under-15 boys’ 1,500m (4.22.17) and James West (Tonbridge) under-17 men’s 1500m (4.00.03).
