POLICE are investigating a fire that destroyed half a building at a water activities centre.

The fire broke out at the Medway Outdoor Education Centre at Pier Approach Road, Gillingham, at 4am on Sunday.

Firefighters were at the scene for two hours battling and controlling the blaze and police are now treating it as suspicious.

Police were also at the scene and used one of their dogs to pick up a scent where a hole had been found in a fence.

Kent Police Insp Ray Kingston said: "We are treating the incident as suspicious but we will not know what exactly happened until we see what the fire brigade investigation and our forensic team comes up with."
