A SECOND fire in as many weeks on a high street is being treated as an arson attack.

Police spotted smoke billowing from a second floor flat on Penge High Street in Bromley at around 7.30pm last night - just yards from a large timber yard which caught alight on Valentines Day, February 14.

Residents from the same block of flats once again had to be evacuated as firefighters put out the blaze.

Beckenham’s fire crew took an hour to extinguish the flames before residents were allowed back into their homes.

Police are treating the fire as arson and a Fire Investigation Team will be examining the flat, opposite the junction with St Johns Road, this morning.
