Arrested man dies after falling ill at police station

An investigation is underway after the death of a motorist who fell ill at a police station. The 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving in Vicarage Road, Bexley Village, Bexley, at about 11.30pm on Friday

He was taken to a south London police station, where he complained of feeling unwell at about 11.45pm. An ambulance was called and he was taken to hospital, but pronounced dead at about 12.40am.

A Met police spokesman said the man’s next of kin have been informed but that he has not yet been formally identified. He would not reveal the police station involved or comment further.

A post mortem will be held and the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards and the

Independent Police Complaints Commission have begun investigations.
