A man has been arrested over the suspected murder of an Ashford woman who disappeared 14 years ago.

Avon and Somerset Police say a 39-year-old is being held on suspicion of the murder of Melanie Hall, who disappeared in Bath in 1996.

The man, from Wiltshire, was arrested this afternoon after he went voluntarily to a police station.

Miss Hall, originally from Brabourne Lees near Ashford, went missing more than a decade ago after a night out in Bath in 1996.

She had moved to the South-West in the early 1990s for university and to be nearer family.
