Arrest after car smashes into railings

A YOUNG man was arrested by police after the car he was driving crashed into railings at the side of a Kent road in the early hours of this morning.

Police officers were trying to stop the Ford Escort in Rochester High Street at around 1.50am when the incident took place on Shorts Way in the Borstal area.

The 22-year-old driver was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital at Gillingham with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.

He was arrested on suspicion of disqualified driving.

The road was partially closed while Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit examined the scene. It was fully opened again at 6.30am.
