Police were called at 1.45am Tuesday after people in the area heard a loud bang and the sound of smashing glass, followed by an alarm.

The front door of the shop had been smashed and a man was seen running from the store.

A 30-year-old man from Herne Bay was later arrested by officers in Dering Road in the town on suspicion of breaking into the store and stealing prescription drugs.

He was taken to the QEQM Hospital at Margate for a check up and is now in police custody being questioned.
