Appeal over fatal crash on A2

KENT Police are appealing for witnesses to a crash involving a car and a lorry which claimed the life of a 73-year-old man.

The tragedy happened on the A2 near Guston, Dover, on Thursday shortly before 3pm.

A red Vauxhall Vectra was in collision with a white foreign-registered Volvo lorry.

At the time the lorry was parked in a lay-by next to the A2.

The driver of the Vectra, a local man who has not yet been named, died at the scene. He was alone in the car. Nobody else was injured.

The cause of the collision is being investigated by officers of Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU).

The road between the Whitfield Hill roundabout and the Duke of York roundabout remained closed for about four hours while officers from the SCIU carried out a forensic examination of the area.

Police are anxious to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who was driving on the A2 around the time of the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the SCIU on 01622 798 538.
