Crash investigators are appealing for witnesses following a collision on the A2 at Boughton, in which a man died.

Police were called to the A2 coastbound carriageway at Boughton, near the Gate services, just before 7.40pm last night (Friday), to a report that a cyclist had been struck by a silver Vauxhall Meriva. The cyclist, a 29 year-old local man, died at the scene.

Officers from the Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who was in the area at the time and had seen either the pedal cyclist or the car in the area prior to the incident. The cyclist was riding a bright yellow bicycle.

The coastbound carriageway of the A2, from Brenley at junction 7 of the M2 to the slip off for Canterbury, is expected to be closed until around 1am.

A 50 year-old man from Whitstable has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently in police custody.

Witnesses are asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538.
