Appeal after motorway worker's death

A YOUNG maintenance worker killed while replacing traffic cones on the M20 at Charing on Tuesday has been named as 21-year-old Daniel Tickner.

Police said Mr Tickner, thought to have lived at New Ash Green, near Gravesend, was replacing cones separating the outside and middle lanes of the carriageway when he became trapped under a works vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. A spokesman for Kent Air Ambulance said his chest was crushed by the lorry.

Police want to speak to the driver of a silver saloon car, possibly a Ford Mondeo, which struck the cones shortly before the fatal accident.

"This car clipped the cones and ended up in lane two facing the wrong way," said a police spokeswoman. She appealed for the driver of this car, or anyone who saw this incident, to call PC Paul Cooper on 01622 608153.
