Appeal after knifeman threatens woman

POLICE are appealing for information after a young woman was threatened at knifepoint as she walked in Ramsgate town centre.

The 21-year-old woman was grabbed by a man who brandished a kitchen knife and demanded money in the High Street.

She struggled to break free and escaped when a passer-by shouted at her attacker. She was not hurt.

The man who helped the victim took her to a nearby taxi office and then left. Police say he is an important witness and want to speak to him.

The suspect is in his late 40s or early 50s. He is about 5ft 10ins tall with cropped brown hair and wore a white polo shirt with a red cross on the front that may have been a football shirt.

The attack happened about 11.30pm last Thursday. Anyone with information should call Thanet Police on 01843 222192.
