Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has ruled out a move for goalkeeper Jason Brown.

Brown had previously indicated Gillingham could be an option on his twitter site but Hessenthaler dismissed the speculation, although he is still keen to add another keeper to his squad.

He said: "As far as I am concerned, Jason won’t be coming to the football club.

"This twitter situation doesn’t do players any favours and I think it’s a little bit of an insult to this football club for him to say he would drop down to come to us.

"There are other goalkeepers out there and we will keep looking."

Gillingham have given former Barnet keeper Jake Cole (pictured below) a trial and he featured for the club in their opening pre-season game at Ashford on Wednesday night. He is expected to play a part again on Saturday at Bromley.

The Gills currently have two pro keepers on their books. Hessenthaler recently signed former Dover man Ross Flitney and he also promoted Daren Hawkes from the youth ranks.

Hessenthaler, speaking on the club’s website, said: "We were pretty comfortable (against Ashford) and Jake Cole could probably do with playing another game for us.

"There is the possibility that he could be involved at the weekend.

"We are looking for a keeper because we want competition for that number one jersey but I thought Ross Flitney was very comfortable on his first outing, he’s a good talker and a good organiser."
