My decision to stay loyal to Tictac Tyson last week was rewarded on Friday night when the Jean Liles-trained dog got it right at the traps and led all the way to win by five lengths at a fair price of 7-2.

He was never going to find an A2 race difficult to win provided he trapped out well and although it will be top grade A1 next time for him, if he repeats the fast-away-from-traps feat, he wins again.

It was nearly a double for column followers as my selection Altamount Lass lost by a short head in the Owners Bonus Final for A4 dogs.

She completely missed her exit from the traps but from last position managed to finish strongly and would have won in one more stride.

So unlucky but equally, so impressive in defeat. You would have to say that on this display she will be a good bet next time out, irrespective of the opposition.

She was beaten by Tyrur Michael who collected the £500 winner’s prize and if my selection had to be beaten, then he was the dog that I would have liked to see win.

My reasons are simply that he has such nice owners, who have had several dogs here at the track over the years. Like all of us, they have had their ups and downs but I love their dogs and was delighted for them that this was a high point.

There was a nice debut win on Friday night’s card from Tawny who exited the boxes in last place but ran on to win by two-and-a-half lengths.

Having been crowded around the first two bends, she showed a great deal of determination in her first competitive race. It will be interesting to see how she performs next time but she looks like a decent prospect.

Tomorrow (Friday) evening the track stages a charity evening in aid of the Wear It Pink appeal which benefits breast cancer sufferers.

There will be trophy races on the card and those who have sponsored individual greyhounds will have the chance to ‘spin the wheel’ to win fantastic prizes should their dog win a race.

There will be many other attractions on the night so why not come along and
give your support.

Gates open at 6.15pm with the first race at 7.30pm.
