Puppy Cavies Magpie did us proud romping in at 6-1 on last Saturday morning’s card.

As I had indicated last week, she is certainly one to watch out for and what was impressive about this win was the manner in which she had to work so hard to gain the victory.

There are not too many dogs that improve in running from fourth place to get in front over just 380 metres but that’s what she did.

The win time was not particularly fast neither was her sectional time and in bottom grade A8, she may not be an obvious candidate for nomination.

I have a feeling, though, that she is the type to improve and a decent price may well accompany her in her next few races.

In the big final on Saturday evening, the Owners Bonus race, my danger dog Reuben Jay Cee did the business, winning at odds of 5-2 as hot favourite Peggys Prince got badly crowded.

While my two mentioned dogs in last week’s column finished first and second, I thought that the race was a strong form line for Weeping Eyes who came home in third place only half a length adrift. A win for her must be imminent.

My performances of the week came from Severely Damaged and Plenty To Say who registered decent looking win times for the grades in which they raced.

on the same card.
The former came home in a time of 23.88 seconds in grade A8 over 380m. That win time was as fast as those for the winners in grades A3 and A4

Similarly over 540m, I thought that Plenty To Say also did exceptionally well coming home in a time of 34.33 in an S6 graded race.

On the day, her time would have won the S3 race on the race card so I am expecting her to now win next time in grade S5.
