A major rescue operation was launched in Margate this morning after a member of the public spotted a man lying unconscious on a cliff ledge.

The man, believed to be in his 50s, is understood to have fallen from the clifftop shortly after 11am.

Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue, South East Coast Ambulance Service, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and Kent Air Ambulance were all called to the scene.

The man, who is from the local area, was rescued just after 12pm and taken to hospital with what are thought to be minor injuries.
