PAUL SMITH, the one-time Gillingham FC captain who returned to Priestfield in October, has now left the club and faces being unemployed.

He has accused Gillingham of leaving him high and dry without a contract.

But Gillingham chairman Paul Scally says that he was unaware until three weeks ago that Smith had cancelled his contract with Walsall, from whom he was on loan.
