3 held after theft of high-performance cars

FOUR Aston Martin cars - three DB7s and a Vanquish - were recovered after being stolen from a car dealership at Riverhead, near Sevenoaks, early today.

The cars, together worth about £450,000, went missing at around 2.20am. But shortly afterwards a police patrol spotted one of the cars at junction 3 of the M25 and pursued it along the A20 towards Lewisham.

In a bid to bring the pursuit to a swift conclusion officers deployed a stinger device, puncturing the stolen car's tyres, at Crittalls Corner, near Bexley.

The driver nevertheless drove on for more than two miles before abandoning the car on Southwold Road, Bexley, after colliding with the central reservation.

The driver was unhurt and was chased on foot by pursuing police. Later a 21-year-old man from Forest Gate in London was arrested.

At about 5am, Metropolitan Police officers saw the three other Astons at the Blackwall Tunnel. The tunnel was sealed off and all three cars were recovered.

Two more men were arrested. Another evaded capture and is still being sought by police.
