Tree surgeon's lofty tribute

IT took a tree surgeon just 20 minutes to scale a 134ft tree in a business park and fly the flag for the Queen.

Tony Mobey, 45, climbed one of Turkey Mill's Wellingtonia trees - giant red woods - to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

Mr Mobey, who works with Coblands Landscapes, planted a union flag at the top of the tree.

It was a repetition of a feat he first achieved 25 years ago for the Silver Jubilee when he climbed a tall pine tree in Tunbridge Wells.

Turkey Mill, Ashford Road, Maidstone, has a number of magnificent Wellingtonia trees planted in 1865 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.

The trees can be clearly seen from the new Sainsbury's car park in the centre of Maidstone.
