Sword is a sign of safety

A SHEERNESS company has been named as one of the world's safest organisations. Weidmuller Interface Ltd will be presented with Sword of Honour, a top award in the safety world, by David Ballard, director general of the safety council at Goldsmith's Hall, London on Friday, November 29.

The Sword of Honour, inaugurated in 1979, recognises organisations where safety systems protect people, plant, equipment and the environment and increase productivity and profitability. They also have to prove they have an organisational culture of aiming for best practice promoted from the boardroom to the shop floor. About 100 companies are eligible to apply each year.

Applicants complete a questionnaire covering management of health and safety, business risk management, environment, culture and behaviour, measurement and control systems, occupational health, best practice and information on accidents and incidents.

An independent awards panel then judges the applicants and auditors carry out random spot checks.
