Sevenoaks heads league of top earners

SEVENOAKS is where Kent's highest-earners live.

The well-heeled district tops a salry table, revealing that the average total income for people who live in the council area was £38,000 in 2001-2, the latest year for which figures are available. It was oneof the highest in the country.

Tunbridge Wells came second with £28,300, ahead of Tonbridge and Malling (£26,400), Maidstone (£22,600), Dartford (£22,300), Ashford (£21,500), Swale (£20,700), Canterbury (£19,700), Medway (£19,500) and Gravesham (£19,400).

Shepway was 11th (£18,900), while Thanet (£17,000) came bottom. Overall Kent and Medway (£22,225) lagged behind the regional average of £24,741, but ahead of Great Britain as a whole (£21,173).
