Production company hits ground running

AN ACTOR has called "cut" on his career in front of the camera to shout "action" from behind.

Matthew Cornet, 32, has set up his own production company making films, commercials and corporate videos.

The 32-year-old, who grew up in Preston, says Decoder Films can help produce "just about anything legal that requires a camera and a budget".

The limited company is already in talks with Sky about a number of television projects, and has secured the services of directors who count Primal Scream and Jet among bands for who they have made music videos.

Mr Cornet has spent most of his working life in theatre and film after schooling at Archbishop’s and sixth form at Simon Langton Boys’ school.

He has toured with theatre companies, had parts in television and film dramas and directed short films. He set up Decoder Films with Mari Tyson, from Dover, who he met treading the boards.

Mr Cornet said: "Between us we have tried our hand at everything from making the tea to pushing the dolly and directing. We picked up a few awards along the way and this convinced us we could do it better on our own.

"We have a team of talented directors and creatives and so far the response we have received has been extremely positive."

In one sense, the company acts a little like an agent. Bands, television companies or businesses approach them with a project they wish to get off the ground for which the team at Decoder Films then write a 'treatment'.

If the client likes the treatment production then evolves as a collaboration.

"At first we were not sure how wide to cast our net," said Mr Cornet.

"But now we have a number of TV projects with Sky, are developing our slate of feature films, have completed several band videos and are in talks with various businesses about promotional corporate videos."
