McDonald's Kent outlets to stock Veggie Happy Meal as fast food giant adds to its meat-free menu

The demand for meat-free fast food has seen burger giant McDonald's today unveil its first ever vegetarian Happy Meal.

Available from its numerous Kent branches, and nationwide, the children's meal replaces the traditional burger or nuggets with a veggie red pesto goujon wrap.

And added to the main menu is the Spicy Veggie Wrap.

It comes as many make new year's resolutions to kick meat out of their diet - or even attempt to go full vegan as part of the Veganuary campaign.

Working with the Britmums network and Vegetarian Society, McDonald’s invited parents and their children to select the final flavour for the new additions to its line-up.

Lynne Elliot, chief executive the Vegetarian Society said: “We’re really proud to have worked closely with McDonald’s for over 10 years and it’s great to see their veggie menu developing, especially as McDonalds tell us a third of their customers think it’s important to eat more veggie meals.

"There’s a growing demand for veggie food everywhere and it’s fantastic to see McDonald’s meeting the needs of their customers.

"It is especially important for young veggies to be able to choose something to eat when they are out with their friends."

Duncan Cruttenden, menu director at McDonald’s UK added: “Our commitment is to offer great food, great choice and a great experience to our customers and we are constantly asking them how we can evolve and improve."

The Veggie Happy Meal will sell for £2.49, the Spicy Veggie Wrap £2.99.

All the ingredients in the new dishes are dairy free and vegan.

However, the tortilla wraps pass through the same toaster as McDonald's buns, which do contain milk.
