Learn more about employee severance

EMPLOYEE severance will top the agenda at two employment law seminars run by law firm Girlings Solicitors.

The free events are being held on October 31 at Hythe Imperial Hotel, and on November 7 at Canterbury Christ Church University, Hall Place, Harbledown. They start at 4.30pm and end at 6pm.

Girlings’ employment law specialist Carl Vincent is leading both seminars which cover the use of compromise agreements, when to pay in lieu of notice, "garden" leave, termination payments and employment references.

Guest speaker is Paul Nixon, a senior manager with chartered accountants Finn-Kelcey and Chapman, who will look at the potential pitfalls of a HM Revenue & Customs PAYE compliance visit and the action employers can take to avoid problems and an in-depth enquiry.

Mr Vincent said: "Termination of employee contracts can be a real headache, particularly for owners of small businesses.

"These seminars offer employers an overview of current employment law requirements as well as practical tips on procedures and practices to help them minimise disruption to their businesses following severance."
