Kent’s War, our newspaper supplement commemorating the 60th anniversary of the end of World War Two, has won a national award.

The broadsheet supplement, published last June, collected the trophy for best "added value product" at the Newspaper Society circulation, editorial and promotions awards in Manchester.

The judges described Kent’s War as "a beautifully produced supplement".

The Newspaper Society represents 1,300 weekly, daily and free newspapers in the UK. David Newell, the director, said: "Judging was made particularly difficult this year by the high quality of entries."

KM Group editorial director Simon Irwin collected the trophy at the awards ceremony on Monday.

Kent’s War, edited by Ron Green and Steve Bodycomb, also received an award for editorial excellence at the Shepherd Neame Kent Press Awards.

Mr Green, KM Group managing editor, said: "It was staggering to discover that 9,000 civilians were killed and 200,000 homes destroyed or damaged in Kent.

"Our supplement was a tribute to all those families who endured life and death in the Frontline County."
