Holiday home with a difference

A Cranbrook holiday lets firm has an unusual new property on its books – inside a converted corn bin.

The Corn Bin is on the Kent/Sussex border, in acres of rolling countryside near Sedlescombe.

The quirky holiday home might look an unlikely prospect from the outside, but step inside to find a showhome-like interior.

Harriet Powell of Cranbrook-based Freedom Holiday Homes said: “When the owner bought the farm it was exactly that –a corn bin – 24 feet diameter, 17 feet tall – after a few years it became redundant and was empty for a while then used as storage and then converted into a farm shop from where to sell Christmas trees.

“It seemed a bit of a waste of space to use it for only three weeks of the year so they decided to convert it into a holiday cottage. So it still has the original tin skin but inside it has been built exactly the same way as any new build house properly insulated and beautifully decorated.”

The property sleeps four. The sitting room is on the first floor and has four windows with great views, leather armchairs, coffee table, wall mounted TV and a dining table and four chairs. There is a kitchen with electric oven, hob and extractor hood, microwave, fridge with freezer, and a surprising amount of storage cupboards.

The bathroom has a hand held shower over the bath and heated towel rail.

It even has its own garden with flower borders and a barbecue.

There are good views over take-offs and landings at a small private airfield, but which also means the property is sadly unsuitable for young children and dogs.

The location is perfect for visiting Bodiam Castle and Battle Abbey, Hastings with its Old Town and pebble beach, and several local vineyards.

A two-night break in October costs from £233. For full price structure, see www.freedomholidayhomes.com
