An industry on the up

The hospitality industry has been described as a sector that often doesn’t get the credit and - according to some people - government-backing that it deserves.

Once perceived as a low-paid, low-skilled and career-limiting option for young people, today the prospects in the hospitality trade are far healthier particularly in the high-end sector.

Experts from the hospitality industry say the hospitality trade has made significant progress in terms of opportunity, innovation and investment.

Today’s figures show that the sector represents 10% of UK employment, 5% of GDP, 6% of businesses and also creates one in eight of all jobs across the country.
