Free computers for tourism project

TEN local businesses have been awarded free computers under a scheme aimed at helping tourism get wired for success. The computers, together with free training sessions for more than 80 people across the district, are part of the South East England Development Agency's Wired Hosts Project which has been supported by Dover District Council.

The project provides tailored marketing, management and computer courses to small and medium businesses in the accommodation and attraction sectors. Following the success of the scheme, a new programme of courses for the tourism industry in Kent will begin later this year.

Kent Tourism Solutions will offer a diverse range of affordable and practical training courses, such as how to build a web page, selling skills for tourism staff and French language training. "We are delighted to have been able to support this scheme which has provided a valuable boost for local businesses," said Cllr Ben Bano, cabinet member for regeneration.

"The scheme has brought in a real investment in the future of the district and builds on our success in developing the tourism business in White Cliffs Country. We are pleased that the scheme has been so successful showing the continuing value of effective partnership working."
