Ideal Waste Paper Company in Swanley fined after two workers have arms injured in conveyor

A waste paper company has been fined after two workers got their arms injured inside a conveyor in separate incidents.

Ideal Waste Paper Company was ordered to pay £42,000 after two accidents at its depot in Swanley, one of which it failed to report for three months.

Bromley Magistrates’ Court heard how an employee got his arm tangled in the roller and belt of a conveyor in March last year.

Then in July, another worker was injured when his arm was drawn into the conveyor.

However, this incident was only reported when an inspector asked for a report.

The company pleaded guilty to three offences – being fined £14,000 for each – after it was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive.

It was also ordered to pay full costs of £5,551.
