Family-owned outlet D&D Autos has been named UK independent Garage of the Year.

The Ashford-based business was given the accolade by the Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF).

"This is a very special award because it means we have been judged by our peers and picked out as the best there is," said owner Derek Pestridge.

"The award was based on the quality of service we offer our customers."

IAAF president Nick Best presented the award to Mr Pestridge and his son Matthew at the organisation's annual dinner in Birmingham. The IAAF promotes independent garages and the role they play in offering good customer service and helping them compete with larger operators.

D&D Autos focuses on staff development, with high levels of internal and external training.

The quality of its operations has twice been recognised by Kent Invicta Chamber which gave D&D Autos its Excellence in Customer Service Award in 2010 and 2011.

The garage, based in Moat Way, Orbital Park, was also highly commended in the chamber's Business of the Year category in 2010.
