Company founder dies at 79

FOUNDER of Maidstone-based distribution company RJ Kingsland and Son, Roland Kingsland, known as Jim, has died aged 79. Mr Kingsland, of Roseacre Lane, Bearsted, started his family fruit and vegetable distribution company in 1956 as a one-man operation.

He was later joined in business by his only son Paul. The company is now run by Mr Kingsland's grandsons Simon and Philip. RJ Kingsland and Son, based in Granville Road, Maidstone, and Biddenden, now employs almost 50 staff and operates 20 commercial vehicles in Kent, East Sussex and south east London.

Mr KIngsland died at Maidstone Hospital on Friday, June 14, following an illness. He leaves his second wife Sheila, a son, two grandsons, two great grandchildren and his step-family. His first wife Pat died in 1980. A funeral service will be held at Vinters Park Crematorium, Bearsted Road, Maidstone, on Tuesday, June 25, at 3pm.
