Community-minded businesses recognised

SMALL businesses in Gravesham that help out within the local community can now get full recognition for their contribution.

The CommunityMark scheme has been piloted across Gravesham and Dartford with great success.

It aims to encourage businesses to establish a community programme that will help tackle social issues affecting local business growth.

Nigel Turley, community mark manager said: 'The CommunityMark pilot in the Thames Gateway areas has proved to be a great success and is to be launched nationwide from April 2003.

"This success is largely due to the support of the local businesses, and the Kent Messenger, who have been very enthusiastic about the introduction of this scheme."

CommunityMark recognises and rewards small and medium sized companies who contribute or who wish to contribute to their particular community interest.

The contribution could range from offering job experience or mentoring to providing professional services, old equipment or sponsorship.

The benefit to the company will include the presentation of the award and use of the CommunityMark kite mark, media coverage, raised company profile and additional business opportunities.

The scheme is free for all companies signing up before the 31st March.

If you would like details of the scheme or would like one of the CommunityMark team to visit you to discuss it please telephone either Nigel Turley, CommunityMark Manager or Lisa Rawlinson on 01322 291060 or e-mail jane@business4people.org.uk
