FERRY travel is becoming more popular again as the Port of Dover reports a strong performance.
Strong summer traffic boosted the figures as more then 11.3 million passengers passed through the port between January and September, nearly four per cent up on the same period in 2006.
The port says the growth is due to an increasing number of cars and coaches.
More than 2.2 million cars, seven per cent up on 2006, went through the port, with coach journeys up 500 to 84,600. The number of lorries went up by one per cent to 1.7 million. More than 200,000 lorry journeys were made through the port last month (September).
