40 jobs lost as joinery firm closes

MORE than 40 people have lost their jobs after the closure of Oare-based East Kent Joinery.

The company has gone into voluntary liquidation and a creditors’ meeting takes place on Friday.

Director Peter Carlavero said despite considerable investment in the firm over the past five years, insufficient sales had been generated.

Faversham joinery Frank and Whittome, owned by Mr Carlavero, is the main creditor. He said none of the directors had drawn any money from the firm.

"We have been working for nothing to help the company and we have done all we can. Obviously we regret having to make the decision," he said.

"East Kent Joinery tried to break into the London bank and office fitting business, but it proved very difficult."
