Road closed following house fire in Dymchurch Road, Hythe

A road has been closed as crews on seven fire engines were sent to tackle a house fire in Hythe.

The blaze broke out at the property off Dymchurch Road, between Redoubt Way (Redoubt Bends) and Botolphs Bridge Road, at around 9.30am.

The road has been closed in both directions as firefighters remain at the scene.

Initially, seven engines were sent to the incident, but by midday this was reduced to two.

Crews continue to dampen down any remaining hotspots.

The single-storey property was not occupied at the time of the fire and no injuries have been reported.

KFRS' volunteer response team also attended to provide support to the affected residents.

The cause is not yet known.

KCC Highways said: "Please use alternate route and expect delays in the area."

Police are at the scene and controlling the traffic.
