Officers are currently hunting a suspect and warned residents to be cautious when opening their door to strangers.

“If you are not expecting any visitors, look through a door spyhole, check your own doorbell footage or use a chain lock when you open the door.

“Do not feel you should open your door if you cannot verify who the caller is,” the spokesman said.

“Residents are also reminded not to leave doors and windows open or insecure.”

After opening the door to a property the man forced his way inside, police said.

He sexually assaulted her over her clothes before she could get him out, according to officers.

The suspect was described as a slim white man, 5ft 10in tall, with short white hair and white facial stubble.

He was believed to be wearing a checked padded shirt jacket, khaki cargo shorts, a grey vest top and light brown boots.

A man was arrested two days after and then bailed while officers continue their investigation, with a fresh appeal for witnesses or CCTV evidence launched on Tuesday.

“Anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious or anyone with private CCTV footage of the street should call Kent Police quoting reference 46/115892/23.

“You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers in Kent anonymously or complete the form on their website,” they said.

“Officers are also reminding people to be wary of opening the door to people they don’t know.”
