Thornden Wood Road in Herne Bay to be shut for as long as six weeks

A popular rat run is set to be closed for as long as six weeks.

Thornden Wood Road in Herne Bay is often used by motorists to bypass the worst of the rush-hour traffic between the town and Canterbury.

Starting on Monday, it will be sealed off between the junctions with Molehill Road and Greenhill Road.

It is being closed to allow for work on a new development - which is believed to be five five-bedroom houses - to take place.

Thornden Wood Road will not be reopened outside working hours, but motorists will be able to use the remainder of the route.

The rat run was closed in March by Kent County Council to allow for repairs to 37 potholes to take place.
