Bomb squad called to Herne Bay beach

The bomb squad descended on the Kent coast after flares were discovered on a beach.

Army and police teams were spotted at Neptune car park in Herne Bay, shortly after responding to a call at 11am.

Explosive experts then worked to disarm a handful of flares, which had been found nearby.

A police spokesman said: "Our PCSOs were with the Royal Logistics Corps in Herne Bay today.

"They made safe a couple of flares on the beach."
