Hanwell Town 1 Ebbsfleet United 2 FA Cup match report: Toby Edser and Rakish Bingham score

Ebbsfleet eased through without alarm in their FA Cup Third Qualifying Round tie at Hanwell Town on Saturday.

The Fleet progressed thanks to goals in either half from the excellent Toby Edser and Rakish Bingham before Hanwell pulled a goal back in stoppage time.

Ebbsfleet came flying out of the traps, forcing four corners in the first six minutes.

Shaq Coulthirst’s right-foot shot was nearly turned into his own net by Calum Duffy before Edser’s corner was nodded off the line by Mathew Mackenzie.

Omari Sterling’s right-foot shot was blocked before Jack Paxman set up Bingham, whose right-foot shot was beaten away by keeper Hugo Sobte.

Hanwell’s first-half attacks amounted to one effort on goal but Ben Chapman blocked captain Harry Rush’s low shot and it went behind for a corner.

Defender Franklin Domi was booked for a foul on Mark Waters but Edser was become an increasingly influential figure for Ebbsfleet.

It was no surprise that he put the visitors ahead on 20 minutes. A corner was half-cleared and when Edser picked up the loose ball he tricked his way past a couple of defenders and fired in an unstoppable shot from 20 yards.

Edser then played in Coulthirst, whose low shot was dragged wide of the far post.

The visitors nearly added a second five minutes before the break but Coulthirst’s right-foot shot was blocked by Duffy with keeper Sobte beaten.

It took Ebbsfleet just five minutes of the second half to double their advantage. Mackenzie tripped the impressive Edser in the box and Bingham stepped up to send Sobte the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Hanwell nearly replied immediately when Sam Saunders’ free-kick saw Daniel Rowe beat the offside trap but his header was brilliantly tipped away by keeper Mark Cousins.

The Fleet were in complete control but they became sloppy in possession and Isaac Olorunfemi led a two-on-one break, which ended with Cousins having to save his right-foot 20-yard shot.

Darren McQueen’s clever flick saw him burst down the right but Sobte saved his low effort before Coulthirst’s follow-up was deflected over.

Hanwell pulled one back two minutes into stoppage time when Mackenzie turned in Sam Saunders' cross but they were unable to muster another attack in the two minutes that remained.
