Ebbsfleet United boss Daryl McMahon on the 3-2 win over Barrow AFC

Daryl McMahon praised the quality of Ebbsfleet's goals against Barrow on Satuday.

Fleet won 3-2 to go 10th in the National League and managed to play some attractive football too in difficult windy conditions at the newly-named Kuflink Stadium.

Aaron McLean capped a rare start with a fine goal, volleying in the opener with his left foot after Danny Kedwell had flicked the ball on.

"It’s a great finish," McMahon said. "When Mac gets in that position, he normally does put it away.

"He’s trained really well and looked sharp. He came on the other night (against East Thurrock in the FA Cup) and looked sharp.

"I was worried whether he could last the whole game but I thought his impact for that hour was terrific. He got in behind and in between people, was strong and it was a great goal."

But Fleet were pegged back 19 minutes from time when Bedsente Gomis stole in front of Nathan Ashmore to equalise.

McMahon said: "After they scored their first goal, I felt that next 10 minutes we looked too open. It was almost like we were going for it with no good shape and when you do that, you’re too open. If you’re not maintaining the ball, it’s easy for teams to have counter-attacks.

"Once we got the second goal, we settled down and looked a good side again. Their second goal’s poor in the sense of us not reacting quick enough from a set-piece but we learn from it."

And that second Barrow goal arrived only when Fleet were 3-1 up, Jack Powell having added to Andy Drury's tap-in with a simple finish from Danny Kedwell's precise low pass from the right.

"It’s what he’s all about," McMahon said. "He’s so unselfish in the work he does.

"He could easily get in that position and think ‘I’m a striker and I’ll shoot, I don’t care about anyone else’ but it’s not only the fact that he passes, its the weight of the pass so Jack hasn’t got to break his stride and it’s a tap-in."

This was Ebbsfleet's third home win in a row and they've only lost two league games all season.

"We’re doing well," McMahon said. "Before today we’ve had in the last seven, five clean sheets, and in the last five league games, 10 points. If we can mirror that kind of points tally throughout the season, we’ll be nice and high in the league.

"We know we’re in a difficult league and we’re competing in it, doing all right.

"I’ve not been one to moan about injuries but we’ve been without some really big players and still picked up points so we’re looking OK."

Darren McQueen (knee) is likely to miss the rest of the season but Fleet are set to sign Febian Brandy as a replacement when they receive international clearance for the striker.
