Late penalty earns Fleet a share of the spoils

Altrincham 2 Gravesend & Northfleet 2

GRAVESEND did well to recover after conceding two goals in quick succession in the first half at Altrincham on Saturday.

The home side took the lead when Ged Murphy capitalised on Fleet's failure to clear their lines and shot into the corner after the ball had fallen to him on the edge of the box.

And it was 2-0 less than two minutes later when Colin Little produced a sublime chip over Aaron Kerr from 20 yards.

Gravesend pulled a goal back when makeshift forward James Smith headed in Bradley Johnson's cross.

And they got the equaliser they deserved with just a minute to play.

Altrincham goalkeeper Stuart Coburn brought down substitute Luke Moore and Johnson kept his nerve to score from the spot.

Gravesend: Kerr, Gooding, R Smith, Hawkins, Watkins, Slatter, Johnson, Bowry, Jackson, Drury, J Smith.
Subs: Holloway, Skinner, Fuller, Darville, Moore.
