In-form striker earns Fleet win

WINNER: Charlie MacDonald
WINNER: Charlie MacDonald

Gravesend & Northfleet 1 – 0 Morecambe

STRIKER Charlie MacDonald’s 10th goal of the season was enough for Gravesend to take all three points against fourth-placed Morecambe at Stonebridge Road on Saturday.

The only goal of the game came after half an hour when Fleet’s top scorer was in the right place to slot home after Morecambe keeper Steven Drench had parried James Smith’s initial goalbound header from Brad Johnson’s corner.

Liam Daish’s side were forced to soak up the pressure after the break as Morecambe searched for an equaliser.

With one of their best chances Fleet keeper Craig Holloway did well to block Gary Thompson’s drilled shot from the edge of the box.

Gravesend: Holloway, Gooding, R Smith, J Smith, Brett Johnson, Drury, Bowry (Hodgson 89), Saunders, Brad Johnson (Slatter 72), MacDonald, Coleman.
Subs Not Used: Kerr, Jackson, Moore.
Attendance: 1,172.
