Fleet well beaten in Trophy quarters

Northwich Victoria 3 Gravesend & Northfleet 0

GRAVESEND failed to reach the last four of the FA Trophy for the first time as they slumped to a 3-0 defeat at Northwich Victoria on Saturday.

The home side took the lead on the half hour mark when Gareth Griffiths rose highest to head in a left-wing corner.

It was 2-0 10 minutes into the second half when Paul Grayson was on hand to sweep in another corner.

And the game was over as a contest on the hour when Matthew Shaw was allowed far too much space in the box to clip the ball past Lance Cronin in the Fleet goal.

Alex Varney should have scored for Gravesend but he contrived to miss the target from less than six yards after great work by substitute Joel Ledgister.

Fleet's misery was complete when Liam Coleman saw his penalty brilliantly saved 10 minutes from time.
