Ebbsfleet United were held to a goalless draw against lowly Lewes at the Dripping Pan in the Blue Square Premier on Monday.

John Akinde started up front alongside Michael Gash after a foot injury ruled out winger Ricky Shakes.

Fleet started brightly and came close to opening the scoring after 13 minutes when Gash saw his header tipped over the bar by Lewes keeper Rikki Banks.

The home side's best chance came on 27 minutes when Matt Geard saw his header crash against the crossbar.

In the second half, Luke Moore, Kezie Ibe and Paul McCarthy all had efforts on goal, but Banks was rarely called upon.

Chamal Fenelon then saw his long range effort saved by Lance Cronin and both sides were forced to settle for a point.

Ebbsfleet: Cronin, Ricketts, Opinel, Charles, McCarthy, Barrett (Hand 57mins), Long, Stone, Moore, Akinde ((Purcell 86 mins), Gash (Ibe 57mins).

Subs not used: Mott, Hawkins.

Attendance: 851.
