Ebbsfleet United boss Jamie Day hails his team's best league performance so far after their 2-1 win at Bromley

Jamie Day hailed an excellent all-round team display after Ebbsfleet's 2-1 win at Bromley on Saturday.

Outstanding goals from Adam Cunnington and Matt Godden made the headlines at Hayes Lane as Fleet inflicted a sixth home defeat of the season on the Vanarama Conference South leaders.

But the visitors showed quality all over the pitch to keep their own play-off hopes alive.

Day said: "We looked comfortable at times against a very good side that will hopefully go and win the league. I thought the boys dealt with what Bromley threw at us and we had the better chances throughout the 90 minutes and deserved the win.

"Adam took a fantastic first touch to bring it inside and then curled it in the corner (for 1-0). Matt Godden’s goal to win it was spectacular.

"The pressure that we did get put under towards the end, I felt the back-four dealt with it and when Brandon was called upon, he pulled off a very good save.

"Going forward, we showed what we’re capable of doing. We created a couple of good chances, Stuart Lewis had a good save, so the all-round game was good, going forward and defensively."

Day changed to a 4-2-3-1 formation because Danny Kedwell was missing with a back injury.

He said: "Stuart Lewis played in a more advanced role and we’re trying to encourage the wingers to play a little bit higher up, to give us a bit more in the final third – and I thought we did that.

"I thought the two midfielders did really well, Rance and Johnno put in a good shift. The whole team deserved a pat on the back today.

"Today was our best performance, league-wise, so hopefully that confidence beds in and people are knowing each other’s games and we can take that into the next run of games."

Results elsewhere on Saturday could not have been much kinder to Ebbsfleet.

Only one of the top-seven won and the three sides immediately above them all lost, meaning Day's side moved to within seven points of the play-offs with nine games left.

They entertain struggling Maidenhead United at Stonebridge Road next weekend.
