Brands Hatch has agreed a new contract with the DTM German Touring Car Championship to host a race for the next three years.

The contract was agreed at the Brands Hatch DTM race by ITR e.V. chairman Hans Werner Aufrecht and MotorSport Vision’s chief executive, Jonathan Palmer. Next year’s event has already been confirmed for August 28-30.

Mr Palmer said: “DTM has been the biggest car racing event on our calendar this season, and I am thrilled that the series will be returning to Brands Hatch for the next three years.

"DTM’s great atmosphere and exciting racing attracts more British fans each year, and together we will work to make the series even more successful in the UK.”

Mr Aufrecht said DTM is enjoying increasing popularity in Great Britain.

"The 26,000 spectators that attended this year’s race held at the venue located close to London represented a new record crowd," he said.

"The extension of the contract represents an important step on the way to further establishing DTM in one of the automotive industry’s core markets."

DTM has been racing at Brands Hatch since 2006 and, to offer spectators the chance of seeing the racing action virtually the whole way round the circuit, the race is held on the 1.2 mile Indy circuit.

As a result, Brands Hatch is the shortest circuit on the calendar and in this year’s race drivers completed a total of 82 laps.
