Ebbsfleet United defender Anthony Acheampong looking to draw on his title-winning experience at Welling United

Anthony Acheampong believes his title-winning experience will be crucial in helping Ebbsfleet navigate the final third of the season.

The 25-year-old centre-back helped Welling claim the Conference South crown in 2012-13 before earning a move to Barnet.

Acheampong says that experience is keeping his feet on the ground despite Fleet’s 10-point lead at the top of National League South.

He said: "I’ve been here and done it before. I’ve won this league. It’s a grind, it’s a long season.

"We have always taken each game as it comes. You have got to keep going until it’s done.

"Until you see the C next to your name, until you’re a champion, you’ve got to keep going.

"It doesn’t matter what the lead is. You’re mindful of what other teams are doing but your main focus is on Ebbsfleet United Football Club.

"We focus on ourselves – the manager has told us that’s what we have to do. You look at the other results but you have to focus on what we’re doing each week."

The one-time Cardiff prospect thinks Fleet’s 1-1 draw at Truro on Saturday, earned with 10 men and in difficult conditions, may turn out to be their hardest-fought point all season.

Ebbsfleet remain unbeaten on the road in National League South after coming from behind to show their title credentials in Cornwall.

Acheampong said: "That is as hard as it gets. It was difficult. A lot of people expected us to come here and get nothing. Everything was against us.

"We know what we’re up against, we know it’s going to be tough until the end of the season. We’re going to keep digging away.

"If you want to be champions you have got to come to places like this and take something away. That’s what we did and we’re proud of our performance."
