Girls can get free sanitary products if they pop into The Grand Healthy Living Centre, in Gravesend

Young girls in Gravesham who need sanitary products can now get them for free.

Girls can now drop into The Grand Healthy Living Centre, in Gravesend to access the free products.

Earlier this year it was reported one in 10 young girls can't afford to buy period products which lead many to miss school as period poverty rose across the country.

The Grand is the first youth hub in the county to be part of the Red Box Project.

It is an national initiative set-up by volunteers, which aims to see free sanitary products in schools and youth projects across the UK.

Stacey Manley, youth worker from The Grand said: "The Red Box Project got in touch with us and we knew immediately that we had to get involved.

"We’ve seen first-hand that young girls are not attending school because of period poverty. We want to let every young person know this box is here for them.”

Any young girl can ask for the Red Box at The Grand at any time, which stocks a range of different products and also has underwear available.

The Red Box Project restocks the supplies regularly, and is funded by public donations via their website.

The Grand aims is to support people to improve their health in whatever way suits them best.

It supports communities to develop social networks, run community safety initiatives, develop committees which give young people a voice and run projects which provide opportunities for older residents to learn alongside younger residents.

It's opening hours are 9.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday.
