The field is close to Northfleet School for Girls.

Some nearby residents who spotted them said they were seen driving over the cricket pitches.

It comes just over two months after travellers pitched up at the same park for nearly two weeks.

In April, a previous group set up camp despite being ordered to leave.

Around 20 caravans were at the green space site even though the local authority handed them an eviction notice the week before.

The group was then served a Section 61 order – emergency powers to direct people to leave – by officers and told to leave as soon as possible.

Police have said they are aware of the encampment and are liasing with the land owners – Gravesham council – about what to do next.

A spokesman for the local authority said: “We are aware of an unauthorised encampment at Wombwell Park and council officers and colleagues from Kent Police are on site this morning assessing the situation.”
