Traffic held on A23 at Northfleet following "serious collision".

Traffic was brought to standstill on the A2 at Northfleet following a three vehicle collision just after 4.15pm.

Highways England said the traffic was being held on the coastbound carriageway at Pepperhill Interchange due to what they called a "serious collision," and that police and ambulance crews are at the scene.

However police say no serious injuries have been reported, and that the carriageway was closed to ensure public safety.

There is currently debris in lanes three and four of the carriageway and officers are in attendance.

Lanes were reopened just before 5pm but long delays remain on the coast bound carriageway between Bexleyheath and Gravesend.

There are also long delays within Dartford and Greenhithe town centres as a result of the crash.
