Bluewater Gatorade 10k

Thousands of runners are tending to
their blisters and aching joints after pounding the streets in the
Bluewater Gatorade 10k.

Now in its fifth year, the run
takes participants through Bluewater’s grounds, towards Dartford,
before heading back to Stone and the shopping centre.

A team of 13 runners from KM Group
took part, including KM group chairman Geraldine Allison and a team
from the Gravesend and Dartford Messengers - editor Bob Bounds and
reporters Mary Graham and Jamie Bullen, who notched up times around
the one hour mark.

Celebrity support came in the form
of Olympic athlete Iwan Thomas, who is still the UK 400metre record
holder at 44.36 seconds.

Speaking before the race he said:
"I hope to get round in about 50 minutes, but my legs are a bit
stiff as I did a triathlon yesterday, which on reflection wasn’t a
good idea." He beat his prediction by returning in 45 minutes.

The male winner of the 10k -
Tewedros Shifedaw - got round in an impressive 29 minutes and 13
seconds, while women’s winner, Edinah Kwambai, completed the hilly
course in 33 minutes 39 seconds.

Most runners will be happy with
raising thousands for charity and last year charities benefited to
the tune of £25,000.

A 2k race for younger runners, was
supported by KM Group. It was won for
the girls by Yemaya Phillips-Smith from Rochester and Corey De’Ath
for the boys (pictured as part of the team on the right)

Andrew Parkinson, general manager
of Bluewater who clocked up an impressive 41 minutes added: "I
think we had around 2,500 participants this year, which is
impressive and it has now become one of the must events in our
calendar.

"One of the things that we get told
is that it is rather a hilly route, so we are in discussions to try
a new, flatter route next year."
